We are members of the 'United Kingdom Alliance' of Professional Teachers of Dancing.

Roy and Trish periodically run specialist workshops and are available for private lessons on request.

They are also available for fun lessons and cabarets at weddings, parties and private functions.

Both Roy and Trish are Professionally Qualified (by examination) Modern Jive Dance Instructors.

You can therefore be assured of the highest level of instructor training.

Instructions for a typical dance night

Do I need to book in advance?
No. There is not set course that you need to enrol on. Every week there will always be a number of people there for the first time and therefore we always run a complete beginners classes, you can just turn up as and when you like.

Do I need to come every week?

As with anything, practice makes perfect. We'd like you to come along every week, but if you miss a week its not a problem. There are about 25 beginners moves and we teach four of these each week. So, if you miss a week or two, the moves will be repeated again about 6 weeks later. You soon get to know all the moves and usually, after about 4 or 5 week, most people feel confident enough to attempt the intermediate lesson. With some people its even sooner.

Do I need to bring a partner?
No. There is no need to take a partner with you because the way we teach is to change partners over the course of the class, making it a more sociable event. It also means you make friends quicker, making the class more enjoyable.

What to wear
Clothes should be comfortable and light as it can get quite hot! It is also advisable to bring a small sweat towel and a spare t-shirt or top.
Footwear should be comfortable and preferably with smooth soles as trainers and shoes with a tread on the bottom will make it difficult to spin around or pivot on the ball of the foot.

Who’s in charge-
Unfortunately ladies it is the man who makes the decisions and leads the dance so please allow him that privilege. The flow of the dance will be interrupted if ladies insist on leading.

Hand hold-
No gripping and no thumbs, a relaxed hand hold is all that's needed so that the dance is lead comfortably . Please no finger nail scars in your partners flesh and remember you are dancing not fighting!

Refusing a dance-
The etiquette is not to turn down the offer of a dance unless you really can’t take another step. It takes courage for someone to ask so please accept the invitation.

Women can ask too-
This is the millennium ladies so you can also ask men to dance too and not sit and flutter the eye lashes waiting for them to ask you ! Just think of all the great songs you could have danced to whilst waiting.

Other dancers will help-
Don’t be afraid to ask a ‘better dancer’ for a dance, this is the easiest and quickest way to improve and any good dancer will be more than happy to help. They were after all beginners once themselves!
