Stylz Jive Club Members of the LeRoc Modern Jive Federation
Stylz Jive is a friendly and sociable place. We don't just want our members to learn to dance, but to have a great evening out and make new friends. The club was set up by Roy & Rosemary Greenhalgh. Roy is a professionally qualified (UKA) dance instructor and full member of the LeRoc Federation. He is responsible for all the teaching and workshops whilst Rosemary manages the door. What is LeRoc, or Modern Jive?
LeRoc, or
Modern Jive was initially called French
Jive, and as the name suggests came across from France. It developed
from the Jitterbug, a dance brought over from America during the second
world war.
It's
also a really fun way to keep fit and a great social night out.

We dance every Tuesday at the Macclesfield Town Hall,
Market Place in
Macclesfield. The
Town Hall is an excellent venue for dancing with a superb dance floor.
We has a fabulous sound system
and amazing lighting that give a great atmosphere. There isn't a bar so
bring your own drinks, however, soft drinks and bottled water will be
available. There is a large free car park to the rear of the building.
In this country during the 60's dancing on
your own became popular with every body doing the twist. This was later followed by disco dancing, a dance performed by ladies around a group of
handbags. In France however partner dancing remained popular. The
style of dance became more relaxed with
less emphasis on footwork and Modern Jive was born. Of all the dance
styles, Modern Jive is by far the most useful because you can use it at
so many social occasions - even on the smallest of dance floors. It's
probably the most widely taught style of dance in the world, with
classes throughout the UK, much of Europe, Australia and the USA. It is
a useful dance to learn as it is easy to pick up and it can be danced to
almost any sort of music from 1940s swing to the latest chart hits.
